![]() We visited Escola Opçao for the second workshop. It was very beautiful day. ![]() This workshop was about language. 日本語の『ネコ/NEKO』とポルトガル語の『ガト/GATO』。これらは両方とも「猫」の意味を持ちます。このネコとガトを二人の人が交互に言い合うと、のちに ネコ・ガト・ネコ・ガト・ネト・ガコ・ガト・ガコ・・・ のようにいい間違い、もしくは音の類似性に自分の発する単語が相手の音に引き込まれていきます。 その単語のもつ音の変化を交換しあうような体験をしてもらいます。 Japanese "NEKO" and Portuguese "GATO"; both words mean "cat". When one person says "NEKO" and another replies "GATO", and they say these two words each other again and again, like "NEKO"-"GATO"・"NEKO"-"GATO"・"NEKO"-"GATO"・"NETO"-"GAKO"・"GATO"-"GAKO"… Through this process, two words can be combined or affected each other, and we can find the similarity of two different sounds eventually. We let students experience to exchange the sound of the words. ![]() First, we separated students into several couples, and we asked them to write down their favorite words on one piece of paper. The language can be Japanese, English or Portuguese. ![]() Then, they faced to their partner, and said the words each other and repeated again and again. ![]() These two girls chose the words "KIBOU" and "FAITH". ![]() Don't be shy that the words became having different or nonsense meaning. Through the process that they repeated pronouncing, they started adding alternative sound to their words. They felt the sound of their words gradually mixed with the another word. ![]() In case the student strongly sticked with his/her word and they faced the problem they could not enjoy feeling the sound changed, Eduardo joined to them to show the example how they could respond to the sound. Look at partner's eyes and feel to send the word. We could see the frustration on some of the students face. They unconsciously tried to block other words to come into their words, or almost laughed at unknown word that they made by mixing the sounds. They had to be focus on sending the word to partner. ![]() Don't feel embarrassed if your word and other's word were combined. Listen to the changed sound carefully. Again and again, they tried to mix their words step by step (but naturally), and when they heard similar sounds from both months at the end, they finally made the new word / language. ![]() ![]() They repeated to speak "KIBOU" and "FAITH". KIBOU-FAITH・KIBOU-FAITH・KIVOU… and they made the word "FEIKIROKI". They wrote down the combined word at the center of the paper. FAITH×KIBOU=FEIKIROKI ![]() After that, they wrote other favorite word at the edge of the paper, and they started saying that each other, again. ![]() ![]() Each pair of the words were combined into one new sound. The word did not made any sense actually, but it was the combination of two similar sounds somehow. ![]() ![]() Amor×Folha=Umora? ![]() Sky (SORA)×Stars (STARS)=SORATARS ![]() Telling something through mouth. By playing with words, they experienced producing similar sounds with more than one meaning from two meaningful words. 次に、同じ2人組でバナーを作ります。前回と同様、5種類の西の内和紙を用意して、今度は違った条件でバナーを作ります。エドゥアルドから出された条件は、 1.言葉を交わさない事。 2.お互いのボディランゲージで相談し合う事。 3.バナー(和紙)を切る時も一方的に持つ側と切る側になるのではなく、お互いに指示し合って作業すること。 4.繰り返し言うけれど、絶対に話さない事。 では、スタート! The next workshop was to make banner by two students. It was the same with the last workshop, they used five different kinds of nishi-no-uchi Japanese paper, however, they had different conditions in this time. 1.Do not exchange the word. 2.Communicate through body language. 3.Make the banner together; tell the opinion each other, do not play only one rule. 4.Make sure it is not allowed to speak. Then, let's start! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It was noisy in the classroom just few minutes ago, but it became to be silence suddenly. ![]() When we gave attention to other groups, some students communicated in writing, which was prohibited. They used body language or eye contact to communicate with each other. ![]() ![]() ![]() It looked like they used sign language to cut each paper with hands and eyes. ![]() That was how they succeeded to make banner. ![]() ![]() ![]() Let's see how these two activities they did in his workshop will be engaged with the performance on the last day of the open studio; "making new sounds without meaning by combining two words" and "making banner without exchanging words". Also, we are looking forward to seeing how his research based on "his interested in language and education system" goes in the future. I think all his works are related to "communication" somehow. We are going to do the same workshop towards the upper-secondary students of Toride-shoyo.
