Today I would like to write about the workshop organized by Eduardo. He held his workshop "holding, walking, falling" for Japanese upper-secondary school students in this time. He would research and compare Brazilian Japanese teenager with so called Japanese JK (female upper-secondary school students). By the way, you can access to the article about his previous workshop held in Joso city from here. ![]() First of all, he introduced himself and explained his career with the powerpoint in front of six students, and they headed to his studio. ![]() He let students introduce about themselves and tell what they like. They seemed shy to speak English. ![]() After that, he suggested the students to write their favorite word, poem, book or song down like he did in Escola Opçao. Then they combined their words. They looked quite serious and nervous to think. ![]() That might be because they are arts students in Tride-shoyo high school. They thought too much about their work since they majored in arts?! (I am afraid that this can be thought as prejudice though..) ![]() They would be get used to this workshop soon hopefully. He divided them into two groups with three members each, and then they mixed their sentences and changed the order, and they made speech about the combined sentences. ![]() ![]() If I remember correctly, one student said "niku (meat)" again and again in another team. Unlike the last workshop in Portuguese, he did not get the meaning what the students spoke out, hence it seemed like he felt the sound of "niku". What he showed to them suddenly was he performed one of the simple movement that we do in our everyday lives. This activity is also exactly the same with the previous workshop. ![]() He told us this was the movement when he cut the paper with utility knife several times yesterday. Then how did the high school students describe their daily lives? 寝てる? Is she sleeping? ![]() is she sleeping, too? ![]() Holding her head? ![]() Feeling depressed? ![]() …They were not allowed to speak a word, so we needed to examine what they expressed physically in a moment. Most students laid down on the floor, and got up and looked for cell phone, and went to bed and woke up and repeat those movements, I guess. ![]() After that, one student chose two other students, and they combined their movement in one scene. ![]() ![]() …Why did many of them like to use floor, not chairs?! Probably it is because of the traditional Japanese style house they were grown up. ![]() I imagined one student described the moment when she just woke up, the another was going to bed soon and the last moment when she fell sleep. ![]() I think the way they used the time and the place was different from the way Escola Opçao students did. (Because I am Japanese,) I could see the typical Japanese behavior and their irritated feeling. Eduardo discerned and recorded the Japanese uniqueness that emerged from their movement. ![]() Next. After the expression of words and body, as the last workshop, he explained how to make banner with Nishi-no-uchi Japanese paper. ![]() Because they had learned Japanese painting and/or oil painting, they could be different from typical high school students. Eduardo asked them to choose one piece of paper as base, and then put four different colors of paper on top of it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Let's say Japanese are serious and hard-working as my conclusion. ![]() ![]() Well done! Can the banner describe "who s/he is"? I am still not sure what Eduardo wanted to see through two workshops for Brazilian Japanese students and Japanese students. Let's see how this project goes. 最後に記念写真を。ワークショップ中は終始おとなしかった彼女たち、終わったとたんこんなポーズをするとは。(これも日本人ならでは?) The photo taken after they finished the workshop. They had been shy all the time in the workshop but as soon as they saw the camera, they changed their attitude and made pose like this. (Could be typical Japanese behavior again.) ![]() After that, each of the students showed Eduardo their favorite things. Pretty "pig"hat, picture book and teddy bear.. the stuffs belonged to 17-year-old girls. ![]() So what did Eduardo try to get through the workshop..? ![]() We are going to report about him again.
