Local 2011_Cecilia's report 03_ARCUS Radio
Arcus Radio 88.0 FM at Moriya Dream Site Festival

It is Saturday September 24 of 2011. The sun is shining, the weather is good and the sky is completely blue, no clouds around. Just 2 days after Typhoon Roke hit the coast of Japan, one can not believe this weather, still feels like summer.
Although, yesterday, Friday 23rd it was a national holiday to celebrate “Ohigam”, the start of the autumn season.

Coincidentally this same weekend Moriya had a festival, “Moriya Dream Site Festival”, which happens once every year. The venue is the square of Moriya Tsukuba Express Station and its immediacy.
There was a central stage and tents all around. The first performance was a group of drum players. It is believed that the sound of the drums cleans the space from bad spirits that is why they are the first ones to perform. This performance is followed by on going dances form various groups, kids, teenagers, adults and the elder.
The tents around the station were selling all sorts of goods, from traditional Japanese sandals, to house improvement goods, to various assortment food: kakigori or slushed ice with syrup, beer, yaki soba, taco yaki, Indian curry and more, all made by local shops and citizens.

Located just by the east escalators was Arcus Radio tent. A temporary radio station was set up. Several radio players were placed around the area so people can listen to the program. Arcus Radio was syntonized on 88.0 MHz.
There where two invited local DJs, Shinichiro Iida and Kohei Ogawa. During the whole day they played music and various guests spoke over the microphone.
Topics related to Arcus, the festival and art were discussed.

Arcus Radio live broadcasting brings together the community, I think specially this time when the broadcasting took place in a public space. Children, teenagers and adults as well were curious about what was happening inside the tent.
I think that the voice of radio is powerful as it can reach a large audience. Free information and knowledge for everyone.
